Symstream offers benefits which are inherited from the mobile network standard as well as the unique technology it uses to transmit information over the mobile network. This combination, brings benefits such as a high quality service, wide coverage, speed, security and cost savings. Symstream/GSM Benefits By developing the patented technology based on the GSM network, the Symstream technology has a number of inherent benefits such as: - Mobility
GSM network coverage and enough signal strength to make a voice call is all that is required to make Symstream work. - Non-Line-Of-Sight
The GSM wireless air-interface is non-line-of-sight and as a result GSM works in dense, urban and suburban environments and has good building penetration capabilities. No need to search for line-of-sight antennas, satellites in the sky or wires in the ground. - Directional Antennas not Required
In fact, no outdoor antennas or satellite dishes are required, as the Symstream device or SRM uses a built-in, in-door antenna that is the size of a ballpoint pen. - High Quality In-door Coverage
Many buildings are already equipped with GSM pico cells providing high quality coverage in-side the building.
- Redundant Network
Automatic handover in the GSM’s 3GPP standard allows the Symstream device or SRM to use the base station which provides the best signal. For example, one side of the building may have better signal strength from a particular base station whilst the other side of the building may be serviced by another base station with a stronger signal. If a base station goes down, the Symstream device or SRM will automatically lock on to the next best signal from the surrounding base stations without user intervention. This offers last-mile redundancy at no extra cost! - Easy Installation
The Symstream device offers the opportunity to connect fleets of devices anytime and anywhere at low cost.
Benefits unique to Symstream’s Technology Symstream also has other benefits that make it a superior solution compared to wireless solutions such as GPRS or mobile dial up.
- Speed
The Symstream Technology has been optimized for the financial transaction market and provides one of the fastest data transaction solutions from call setup to call teardown. - Availability with an SLA (Service Level Agreement)
GSM voice services always have a higher priority than wireless data transmissions such as GPRS. The Symstream technology uses the GSM voice channels so a Symstream data transmissions is always more reliable than GPRS and have similar reliability to a leased fixed line service. As a result a SLA can be applied to a Symstream data transmission, whereas a GPRS data transmission is on a best effort basis only. - Security
Symstream offers unparalleled security because of the symbolic nature of the data transmission, the standard GSM security and the fact that each data transmission uses its own dedicated voice channel. These aspects make it very difficult to decode Symstream data transmissions, unlike GPRS which is based on bits and bytes and uses a shared wireless channel. - Wide Coverage
All it takes is a GSM network with national coverage or for that matter a GPRS, EDGE or WCDMA network that provides GSM standard voice services.
- Low Network Setup Costs
The GSM mobile network is already available globally in more than 210 countries. There is no need for new network equipment or base stations to support the Symstream Technology.
